Plot
This episode marks the premiere of the show. Dawson Leery is introduced as an obsessive Steven Spielberg fan. His best friend Joey Potter becomes aware of her changing relationship with Dawson as they grow up and she makes the point that they shouldn't be sleeping in the same bed anymore during sleepovers. New-girl Jen comes into town and hostility between Jen and Joey is very evident from the start. Jen is here to visit her Grams while her Gramps is in a coma but the two don't get along because Grams is a strict Christian while Jen is an atheist. Dawson and Pacey Witter, Dawson's buddy, are taken by her and Dawson shows her his studio (his bedroom). Dawson invites Jen to participate in his film which previously had only Pacey and Joey as characters.
Meanwhile, Pacey runs into Tamara Jacobs, a new and attractive English teacher at Capeside High, while working at the video store. She wants to rent The Graduate, a film about an older woman seducing a younger man. Pacey immediately sees the parellels and wants to stalk Tamara at the movie theatre. He convinces Dawson to come along. Dawson's pulls Joey along with him too and plans a date with Jen at the theater. Pacey is unsuccessful in furthering his relationship with Tamara and gets punched out by Tamara's date. Joey asks Jen many embarassing sexual questions which get Dawson mad and Joey leaves the theater. Pacey later meets up with Tamara on the docks and hits on her despite her protests that she isn't interested. Tamara kisses Pacey and runs off, embarassed.
Back at Dawson's room, Joey and Dawson admit their relationship is changing. To prove her point, she asks Dawson when and who he walks his dog to and he doesn't answer the question. As Joey leaves, Dawson shouts, "Usually in the morning with Katie Couric" to her, causing Joey to laugh. As she leaves, Joey sees Mrs. Leery kissing her co-anchor Bob, hinting at an affair which she and Dawson had been jokingly suspecting for a while.

Joey: I have breasts and you have genitalia.
Dawson: I've always had genitalia.
Joey: But there's more of it.
Dawson: How do you know?
Joey: Long fingers.
Jen: Hey, Joey, I love your lipstick what shade is that?
Joey: Wicked red, oh, I love your hair color. What number is that?
Dawson: You'll have to excuse Joey. She was born in a barn.
Jen: That's ok. Uh, Joey I just do highlights.
Joey: So, uh, Jen, you a virgin?
Dawson: That's mature!
Joey: Well, cause Dawson is a virgin and two virgins really make for a clumsy first encounter, don't you think?
Dawson: You are gonna die!
Joey: I was just trying to help, you know, cut to the chase.
Jen: No, it's ok, Dawson... I am a virgin and how about you, Joey, are you a virgin?
Joey: Please. Years ago. Trucker named Bubba.
