Plot

It's Friday the 13th, and Dawson is excited at the opportunity to scare people, Joey especially. Joey is against the idea, of course, and scolds Dawson for liking scary movies. The "Lady Killer" has been sighted killing teenage girls in the area and there's word he may be in Capeside. The next day, Cliff asks Jen out but is jealous of Dawson's creativity which Jen finds attractive. Thus, he asks Dawson for advice about his first date with Jen. Pacey, Jen, Dawson, and Joey discuss the Lady Killer at lunch. Dawson decides to have a seance and invites them all. Meanwhile, Jen finds a note in her locker threatening her life and she later receives a scary phone call. Dawson and Pacey buy food for their party, while Joey waits in the car. They find a couple fighting and the woman, Ursula, sneaks Pacey a bottle of wine. Ursula is invited to join the gang and they run off to escape her enraged boyfriend. In the car, Joey finds a man staring at her, claiming he is lost. She gives him directions, but he stays around and comments about her eyes. He finally leaves when Dawson approaches.

Dawson tells Joey to be safer, reminding her of the Lady Killer. Cliff picks up Jen and brings her to the seance at Dawson's House. Jen blames Dawson for the scary call and notes but he denies it. Jen, Joey, and Pacey are in for many scares as Dawson has rigged the house with his pranks. The seance finally begins as they take turns telling stories. Dawson talks about the lady killer, Cliff tells a digusting story, and Ursula talks about killing some kids at a party which spooks the gang. Suddenly, the lights go out and the phone goes dead. They lock the doors and check the power box. Dawson is confused that that power isn't working. While outside, Ursula tells Dawson about her problems with her boyfriend and Dawson confesses having some troubles with Jen. He is told by Ursula that he should be dating Joey.

Upon returning, Dawson notices that Joey is gone. Joey falls out of a closet "dead." He looks up to see a person with a knife, screams, and Dawson realizes he the victim of their joke. In Dawson's room, Jen and Dawson talk about their relationship and agree to be friends. Suddenly, the crazy boyfriend breaks into the house. Joey hits the man with a frying pan but Ursula throws Joey off, helps the man up and leaves with him.

Cliff walks Jen home and confesses he called her because Dawson told him that she liked to be scared. Jen tells Cliff she is not looking for a relationship now. Joey decides to sleep over at Dawson's house. They hypothesize about what would happen if one of them died, both admitting they would miss the other. Turning on the television, they see the Lady Killer was captured. He was the man talking to Joey at the store.

Joey: What's that supposed to mean?
Pacey: You're going to go to your grave pining away for your best friend who is so oblivious he has no idea you lust after him morning, noon and night!
Joey: I don't lust for Dawson.

Stupid Jen Lines

  • "The guy's just looking for love." -- When I look for love, I go around killing people too.
  • "Don't I get a scare?" -- If you really wanted that, why'd you break up with Dawson in the first place? Besides, if you want a scare Jen, just look in the mirror.
  • "Dawson, you have been scaring me all night." -- Well you wanted a scare, and it was not Dawson; it was Cliff! (Submitted by Hater)
