[Episode Transcript]
Goofs
Continuity
- When Cliff asks Jen out on a date, they act as if they've never dated before. But didn't they just go out to the carnival in the last episode?
- Pacey says that Joey has to stay behind in the car while Dawson and him get the supplies since he doesn't have the keys to the car but when Pacey leaves Dawson's house later that night, he's able to start the car up with no problems.
Timeline
- When Joey, Pacey, and Dawson leave Dawson's house, it's the middle of afternoon. But when they get to the grocery store it's nighttime. Capeside must be bigger than it looks or maybe Pacey's car needs a tune-up.
Technical
- It is against the law to sell alcoholic beverages in convenience stores in Massachusetts.
- Before stepping on the little box on the floor while she is phoning with her "murder", Jen looks down to see if she will hit it.
Incorrect
- Why are Joey and Dawson watching scary movies on Thursday the 12th, especially when there's school the next day? They usually watch movies on Saturday nights. Wouldn't it make more sense to watch scary movies on Friday the 13th?
Why not watch movies the day before Friday the 13th? If Dawson was going to have a party the next night they couldn't watch them then, so they wouldn't get a chance to watch any scary movies at all unless they did it the night before.

Notes
- Kevin Williamson, the creator of Dawson's Creek, is a pro at scary movies. He made Scream, Scream 2, and I Know What You Did Last Summer. He also wrote Halloween H20 which cast Michelle Williams as Molly.
- The movie Dawson and Joey are watching at the beginning of this episode is I Know What You Did Last Summer. They show a scene of Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) being chased by the killer but they don't show the entire scene in order. This movie was written by Kevin Willaimson. Sarah was rumored to make a guest appearance appearance on the show sometime in the second season.

- When everyone laughs at Dawson after Joey "dies," notice how Pacey turns his head toward Cliff. That's because Scott Foley (Cliff) accidently grabbed Joshua Jackson's butt. In another take, he grabs Michelle Williams' butt but this one never makes it into the final episode.
- After Joey switches off I Know What You Did Last Summer, the film playing on the TV is Jerry Maguire, with Bonnie Hunt and Renee Zwelinger speaking.

- This episode was originally not shown in the United Kingdom because it had too much violence to meet their television standards.

- In this episode, Ursula is played by Jennifer McComb. When the actress appeared on the TV show Saved by the Bell years before, her name was Jennifer Comb.

Review
Wayne:
When I first saw the preview for this episode, I was thinking "Cheese on a stick!" It wasn't very scary, but the episode really suprised me with lots of great plot twists and an ending that really suprised me. It brought the main four characters together, something which we hadn't really seen since Breakfast Club. Even Jen's presense in everything didn't ruin this great episode for me. (7/10)
Drew:
This attempt to somewhat recreate Kevin Williamson's pride and joy Scream was a fair attempt at best. There was its fun moments like when Dawson scared Joey by appearing under the bed with a Jason mask on. Also when Joey supposedly died which lead to hearing Dawson's unconvincing/humourous scream, and when Pacey's lady friend makes it sound like she's a psychopath and everyone's just staring at her was very funny.
Of course, being a television show aimed at a fairly young audience, they couldn't have any of the bloodshed and gore that Scream had, and they did a great job of keeping the moody yet fun atmosphere. When Cliff confesses to Jen that he was the one who was scaring with scary phone calls and the rest of that stuff, it just seemed real stupid. The only scare I got out of it was when the Lady Killer was caught, and Joey could've been his next victim. For a Katie Holmes fan, that is very, very scary! (7/10)
