Goofs

Continuity

  • The Capeside high school mascot is the Wildcat, and the school colors are blue and gold, but in the first episode, the sign is black and orange and so are some of the lockers. In this episode, the same sign was blue and gold.
  • In the first two episodes, Ms. Jacob's desk is on the right side of the room, and the door is on the left. But in this episode and in subsequent ones, her desk has been on the left, and the door has been moves to the right.
  • When Jen and Dawson are hurrying to move their equipment because Tamara and Pacey are entering the ruins, they leave the TV sitting on a bench, and the power is off. Yet when the camera pans back to the TV on the bench again, it is on and shows Tamara and Pacey making love.
  • Why didn't Anderson recognize Dawson at the Icehouse after running into "Debra" when she was talking to Jen and Dawson? Pacey called to Anderson at the Icehouse the day before when Joey was caught staring at him.
  • When Joey hears Anderson playing the violin the first time, she takes off her apron and puts it behind her back. When we see her from the front, she has her arms folded. But when we cut to the back, she's holding the apron again.

Timeline

  • Joey goes to Anderson at the end when he gives her his phone number. When he asks if he can walk her anywhere she tells him, "No you have to stay here in the moonlight. It's where you belong." Unfortunately for Joey, the sun was out, not the moon.

Technical

  • Body has really changed in this episode. He must have had some plastic surgery. (He's played by a different person than the man who played him in Emotions in Motion)
  • When Dawson and Joey are watching From Here To Eternity at the beginning, Dawson tells Joey, "You could be Deborah Carr," which later resolves when Joey tells Anderson her name is Deborah Carson. Following so far? Okay, here's the important part - the actress in the movie was Deborah Kerr, not Deborah Carr.

Notes

  • As Anderson and Joey kiss before she leaves, the song "I'll Remember You" by Sophie Zelmani plays. This exact song plays on an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Angel", when Buffy and Angel kiss right before Buffy leaves. (Submitted by Danni)
  • Although this episode was originally titled after the movie A Prelude To A Kiss, it was retitled (now called Kiss) like all the episodes in the first season to prevent potential lawsuits due to copyright infringement.

Review

Wayne:

This was a "Joey episode." She was obviously the focus. Being a Katie Holmes fan, I thought it was pretty good. Pacey's adventure with Tamara and Dawson's "Helmets of Glory" plotline were also mildly entertaining with the fun rivalry between Dawson and the annoying Nellie. It was a good episode, just nothing spectactular. (7/10)

Drew:

This episode really showed what passion Joey is capable of having. With the love-at-first-site happening with Anderson, we see Joey in her charming ways that eventually leads to an almost kiss with Anderson. Also, Cliff's movie is hilarious. Not the movie itself, just how much he's in love with it, because I think it's quite ridiculous.

The best part was the secret garden scenes. Dawson and Jen getting their first kiss in not the best place in the garden with "What would happen if we kiss" by Meredith Brooks, and Pacey losing his virginity to his English teacher. The only thing that spoiled the moment is the very noticable editing flaw revolving around Dawson's monitor. (8.5/10)
