Plot
The episode starts with movie night being disrupted after Dawson invites Jen which annoys Joey. Bessie goes into labor and Joey rows her to the Leery household which has a phone so they can call an ambulannce. Unfortunately a traffic accident makes the ambulance unavailable and Grams, a registered nurse, is called by Joey to deliver to baby. Joey turns to Dawson when her sister's anguish floods her with memories of her mother's death. Dawson convinces Joey to confort Bessie. While Bessie is going through all the agony, Dawson videotapes the whole scene for Bodie who is out on a job interview. Jen puts aside her religious differences with Grams, who must overcome her own racial judgements, when they are the only ones left to deliver the baby. The baby is eventually delivered as a boy.
Stats
Great Lines
Joey: My sister's having her baby.
Joey: Oh great! The boat is leaking.
Bessie: One hospital with one ambulance and no doctor within 30 miles? Another of the hidden joys of living in the middle of nowhere.
Dawson: Hey look, Pacey, granted this is not good, but this is in your hands! You can control this now.
Joey: Look, I know you don't like me or approve of my family. I know that you could think of at least eighty reasons way Bessie and Bodie are the worst kinds of sinners, but right now, as we speak, my sister is sitting next door in Dawson's house, inches away from giving birth and out of those eighty reasons I can't think of any that the baby is actually responsible for, so if you could remember that as a nurse you took an oath to help others in need and well... it would be really nice.
Bessie: Do you know the average gestation period for the fruit bat is two months. Two months! That's fair.
That's reasonable. Why can't I give birth to a fruit bat?
Grams:Ok, Mr. DeMille, you can do something useful and get us some large towels and washcloths, please. Stupid Jen Lines
